On the 26th June 2010, P&DARCS kindly hosted a helicopter wings testing session for a number of Lilydale fliers who were willing to sit their proficiency test. Steve Malcman, our resident helicopter instructor and one of our mentors, made sure that the day ran smoothly and stress free.
Despite the moderately stiff breeze and super cool conditions, a great day was had by all with a total of four pilots obtaining their Bronze wings, one of which is our very own Toby Gaumann. The other successful pilots to obtain their bronze wings were Greg Lepp, Phil Thornton and Scott Bathie of the Lilydale model aircraft club.
Overall it was a successful day and we would like to encourage more of our own helicopter members to consider giving it a go or even watching just to be aware of what is involved. Some may even be pleasantly surprised at what may have seemed once thought of as too difficult to within reach with a little bit of practice. Who knows you may even surprise yourself.
